The breadth of the market favoured the advances with 1188 stocks advancing and 479 declining while 392 remained unchanged. On the BSE, 1596 stocks advanced, 785 declined and 140 remained unchanged.
The Indian benchmark indices have extended the morning gains and were trading on a positive note in this Wednesday afternoon session with the Nifty50 up 52 points, trading at 10,960 while the Sensex added 125 points and is trading at 36,472.
Nifty Realty was the outperforming sector, up over 2 percent led by DLF and Indiabulls Real Estate which jumped over 7 percent followed by Prestige Estates, Sobha and Sunteck Realty.
Nifty PSU bank continued to buzz, up 2 percent with gains from PNB, SBI and Vijaya Bank which jumped 2-3 percent followed by Bank of India and Bank of Baroda.
From the midcap space, the top gainers were Castrol India, Dish TV, Berger Paints, Apollo Tyres, Exide Industries, Canara Bank, Cholamandalam Investment, DHFL, GMR Infra and M&M Financial Services among others.
IT stocks were however trading lower with the Index down over 1.5 percent led by HCL Tech, Infosys, Oracle Financial Services, Tata Elxsi, TCS and Tech Mahindra.
The top gainer from NSE include Indiabulls Housing Finance, UltraTech Cement, Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv while the top losers included Infosys, Vedanta, Sun Pharma, TCS and HCL Tech.
The most active stocks were Indiabulls Housing Finance, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, Zee Entertainment and YES Bank.
Bata India, Colgate Palmolive, Avenue Supermarts, GSS Infotech, Muthoot Finance and TCNS Clothing have hit new 52-week high on NSE in this afternoon session.
31 stocks have hit new 52-week low including names like Adhunik Metaliks, Entertainment Network, Gayatri Highways, Hindustan Composites, Orchid Pharma, Rolta India and SRS among others.
