BMW launches X5 priced at Rs 72.9 lakh

Loaded with new features, the X5 is slightly longer and wider than the outgoing model.


BMW, India's second largest luxury car maker, launched the fourth generation X5 sports utility vehicle on May 16, with prices starting at Rs 72.9 lakh for the Sport variant and Rs 82.4 lakh for the xLine (ex-showroom).

Loaded with new features, the new X5 is slightly longer and wider than the outgoing model thanks to the new platform which it shares with the 5 Series and 7 Series sedans.

The SUV, which will be one of the 11 models assembled by the German giant in India compete against the Range Rover Velar, Audi Q7 and the Mercedes GLE. This is the third (after 530i M sport and Z4) of the 12 launches announced by BMW for 2019.

The new X5 gets a reworked front bumper, grille, fog lamp bracket and headlamp assembly. A reshaped roofline makes the vehicle look taller than its predecessor. Rear fenders are wider housing reshaped and slimmer taillight. Exhaust tip get wider space in the restyled rear bumper.

The interiors of the X5 gets a complete makeover including the driver seat, center console unit and screen. The seating area is wider both in the front and rear compared to the older model. There will be more leg space and boot space due to the extra wheelbase.

The X5 gets the choice of two diesel engines - xDrive 30d Sport and xDrive 30d xLine. A petrol variant xDrive 40i M Sport will be available later in the year. The diesel unit is a  3.0 litre, six cylinder, 265 hp diesel engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The petrol mill is also a 3 litre, six cylinder motor that generates peak power of 340hp. This engine will be Bharat Stage-VI compliant.
