The food inflation was higher at 4.95 percent as against 3.89 percent last month. Non-food articles’ inflation climbed from March's 2.83 percent to 5.23 percent this month. Manufactured products’ inflation was at 1.72 percent as against 2.16 percent in March.
India's retail inflation stood at 2.92 percent in April, higher than 2.86 percent in March. The core CPI for April contracted to 4.6 percent from 5 percent in March.
For the April-September period, the RBI has projected retail inflation at 2.9-3 percent mainly due to lower food and fuel prices, as well as the expectation of a normal monsoon.
The Monetary Policy Committee headed by the RBI Governor is going to meet in early June for the second monetary policy review for the fiscal.
